UVCE principal suspended .

BANGALORE: K R Venugopal, in-charge principal of University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering, Bangalore, was on Friday placed under suspension for allegedly producing a false caste certificate at the time of appointment 12 years ago.Bangalore University Syndicate, the highest decision making body of the university, decided to constitute a subcommittee headed by J V Rudramuni, with K V Kodandaramaiah and R Harish as members, to verify the authenticity of the caste certificate produced by Venugopal and submit a report within two weeks.“The higher education department sent us a letter on September 18 to act on the allegations made against Venugopal.The matter was placed before the Syndicate and it was decided to place him under suspension till the subcommittee submits its report,” BU registrar Sanjay Vir Singh told reporters here.Venugopal is a professor in the department of electronics and computer science and was made the in-charge principal in June this year. At the time of his appointment in 1986, he had produced a certificate claiming that he belonged to Agnikul Kshtriya category.Venugopal was unavailable for comment. The next Syndicate meeting is scheduled to be held on October 4.
